IUS/DC REGION IS BACK, AFTER MORE THAN A DECADE!
The Washington, D.C. Region of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society (IUS) recently resumed the speaker series that it conducted for so many years from the 1970s into the early 1990s.
Held at the Fort Myer Officers Club on Tuesday, 6 March 2007, Dr. Bernard Rostker was the inaugural guest speaker for the reinstituted IUS DC.
Bernie Rostker has been intimately involved with defense manpower policymaking and analysis for close to 40 years. He has alternated service in high-level appointive positions in DoD, with conducting and managing equally important manpower and personnel studies and analyses at the RAND Corporation. He is currently a Senior Fellow at RAND. RAND recently published his book on the history of the All-Volunteer Force, and of the policy analyses which supported the transition to and continued operation of the AVF, entitled I Want You! The Evolution of the All-Volunteer Force. Bernie will speak on the methodology he used in researching and writing the book, its conclusions, and the prospects for the AVF itself.
The event was a great success and we are excited that IUS/DC Region has once again become active. We hope you are too and that you'll join us at future IUS/DC events. Please check this site periodically for updates and announcements on upcoming events; prospective Fellows of the IUS are most welcome to attend.
