The Curriculum in Peace, War and Defense invites applications for the Richard Krasno Distinguished Professorship in either History, Political Science, Public Policy, or Sociology. Competitive candidates must have strong records of research in Strategic and/or Security Studies, 20th Century U.S. foreign policy,or peace and conflict studies, to start as early as July 1, 2010. The position will be jointly appointed with the Curriculum of Peace, War, and Defense (PWAD), an interdisciplinary community of faculty, and relevant courses will be cross-listed in the PWAD Curriculum. Air University: Professor of Expeditionary culture

Air University is seeking a practitioner/scholar that can apply "culture-general" concepts to the unique requirements of US Airmen about to be deployed into culturally complex environments. This is a full-time position as Professor of Expeditionary Culture. The successful candidate will support systematic Air Force efforts to develop cross-cultural competence (3C) within the Air Force, building upon the culture-general foundation being developed through professional military education (PME) to develop "just in time," culture-specific capabilities for particular operational environments. The incumbent will develop, vet, deliver and evaluate this learning. The ideal candidate is an experienced practitioner with a good theoretical/conceptual grounding. Job Posting: Cultural Anthropologist for the Army Logistics University

The Army Logistics University (ALU) is an Army educational institution that provides consultation services, conducts research, and provides educational courses in the fields of logistics, acquisition, and operations research for the Departments of Army and Defense. Individual would be responsible to the Commandant/President, Army Logistics University.

Serves as a Cultural Anthropologist/Professor in the Office of the Commandant, ALU, providing expert cultural anthropological instruction, develops curriculum IAW TRADOC regulation 350-70, and makes recommendations for the education of military and civilian logistics leaders from NCO and Intern through Colonel and General Officer/SES; conducts consultation, research, and education/instruction. Independently performs professional consultation and training for the staff of the Sustainment Center of Excellence, Museums on the Installation, staff and faculty of the ALU, and the students attending classes on the installation. As required, provides consultation for numerous Federal agencies.

  1. Initiate, develop, and personally participate in research programs, and undertakes field work in Cultural Anthropology. Collaborates with researchers of other government and non-government institutions, to encourage studies of interest to the DoD activities, programs, and organizations in the logistics leader development community. Prepares for publication of scholarly reports of descriptive and theoretical nature, based on own field work, on the study of collections in this and other institutions, and on the existing scholarly publications. 25%

  2. Serves as a Senior Instructor/Professor. Determines required cultural training to be provided within the SCOE. Constantly reviews new methods and approaches to determine suitability for inclusion in instructional/training material. Coordinates with the Branch School proponents and ALU Deans for implementation of all anticipated changes in curriculum and the ongoing development process and provides instruction to multiple levels of student leader from junior leader through senior military and civilian advisors/action officers. 45%

  3. Serves as the principal SCOE advisor in matters pertaining to cultural anthropology considerations for sustainment concepts, force development, education, training, research, doctrine and consulting. Reviews all DTOLMPF products to ascertainment cultural effects and recommends changes to better integrate cultural considerations into these products. Recommends courses of action to include optimum utilization of manpower, project priorities, and changes to policy and regulations of this and higher headquarters. Interprets directives and orders of higher authority to understand and respond to their needs, requirements, problems, and to assess impact on the programs of the SCOE. Incumbent makes recommendations and, takes action. Advises on changes in program goals and policies as circumstances require and recommends such changes when higher authority approval is required. Acts as primary consultant on the Installation. The constantly changing and increasingly complex nature of the field (e.g., advances in technology, new methods of work, etc.,) will require the incumbent to constantly update and review the subject. Guidelines may be broadly stated and require extensive interpretation. The incumbent is considered the professional authority in the field. 20%

  4. Provides curatorial services in reference to all Curatorial services include collection, preparation, cataloging, and conservation of Mementoes given to ALU by students from various countries. 10%

FACTOR 1. Knowledge Required by the Position Level 1-9 1850 Points

The incumbent must be recognized as a leader in the field of Cultural Anthropology attested by favorable reviews, citations in the work of others, or other comparable awards or honors. The individual should hold a doctorate degree in Cultural Research publications must have been of such quality, originality, soundness, and value as to have marked the incumbent as a significant contributor to the field of Cultural Anthropology. The incumbent must have extensive experience in anthropological studies.

FACTOR 2. Supervisory Controls Level 2-5 650 Points

Incumbent receives general administrative direction and professional counsel from the Commandant/President, Army Logistics University. The Commandant discusses goals, potential problems areas, and objectives at time of project assignment. In addition, the Commandant indicates areas to be studied, results to be expected, and evaluates suggestions made by incumbent. Supervisor is available to provide advice. Incumbent is expected to work with minimal supervision, and to evaluate the accuracy and validity of procedures and results from ongoing work. Completed reports are reviewed from the standpoint of adequacy, completeness, and validity of conclusions reached.

FACTOR 3. Guidelines Level 3-5 650 Points

Guidelines consist of Institute, DoD, and professional standards.

FACTOR 4. Complexity Level 4-5 325 Points

Complexity relates to the increase of knowledge of Cultural Anthropology in the logistics community.

FACTOR 5. Scope and Effect Level 4-5 325 Points

The position provides the opportunity of exchanging knowledge and information with other experienced anthropologists in the field, staff and faculty in the SCOE, IMCOM, HQTRADOC, HQDA, and DOD personnel.

FACTOR 6. Personal Contacts Level 6-3 60 Points

Personal contacts are made with numerous professional and technical personnel at other government agencies and outside colleagues.

FACTOR 7. Purpose of Contacts Level 7-3 120 Points

Position has frequent contacts with high ranking Department of the Army and DOD military and civilian managers and staff personnel. Contacts occur in meetings, conferences, and unplanned contacts, and require extensive preparation of complex subject matter. The purpose of personal contacts is to obtain and exchange information in the fields of Cultural Anthropology, to become familiar with new technology and methodology, and to solve technical problems.

FACTOR 8. Physical Demands Level 8-1 5 Points

The consultative and research work is mostly sedentary.Consultative work is in a typical office setting. Field work is in normal and primitive outdoor settings. Research efforts will be in an office environments or TDY to a site to research and/or observe cultural differences.

Job Posting: Air Force Culture and Language Center

The Air Force Culture and Language Center invites applications for a faculty position of open rank. We seek a psychologist (industrial/organizational, social, cross-cultural, etc.) or closely related behavioral scientist (organizational behavior, education, etc.) with a mastery of psychometric assessment, interest in professional development and emphasis on culture. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic and growing inter-disciplinary center charged with strengthening the ability of all Air Force personnel to exert positive influence in culturally complex environments. This individual will serve as the Air Force authority on the assessment of Airmen's cross-cultural competence.

Initially, the incumbent's primary role will be to adapt/develop and apply psychometric instruments to evaluate the effectiveness of educational and training efforts. The position will also offer other opportunities/funding to conduct/supervise research relating to the assessment of cross-cultural competence. A solid background in research design, quantitative methods and analysis is required. The successful candidate will use his/her findings to assist in curriculum development, provide guest lectures and teach graduate/undergraduate electives across Air University (AU). AU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Students include US military personnel, members of allied armed forces and civilians. Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for outreach to professional associations, academic institutions and military centers in the US and internationally through academic conferences and other activities.
